Alleged Rapes in Dumas

"Being such a small town, nothing like this has ever happened," says Antonio Olivera "Being such a small town, nothing like this has ever happened," says Antonio Olivera

Two rapists or a serial rapist. Either way, residents of Dumas are uneasy tonight. Police are counting on DPS experts to help find those responsible. NewsChannel 10's Marissa Bagg spoke with those who live nearby where the crimes happened.

The two addresses where the sexual assaults happened are within eight blocks of each other. The latest one happened this morning. Those who live in the area are stunned and upset.

"Being such a small town, nothing like this has ever happened," says Antonio Olivera.

Olivera says it was just a matter of time before crime crept into his quiet neighborhood.

"My nieces live a block away, I've been walking them back and forth to their house. It's scary because you never know when something like this can happen."

But now it has. In less than a month two sexual assaults took place in Dumas, within a mile of each other. One on 12th and south Meredith, and this morning on the 400 block of East 6th.

Police released a sketch of the man police think committed the first rape last month. A composite will be drawn up tomorrow of the suspect in the latest rape, when a DPS sketch expert from Austin comes to town to speak with the victim. Right now no one has been arrested for either crime. Olivera hopes that changes fast.

"Do you try to keep your eyes open and pay attention to what's going on now?" "Yes I do, I do now."

Police do not know if the two incidents are related, but they are investigating it is a possibility.
