Women Arrested for Trafficking Drugs

A women is caught trying to sneak illegal drugs across New Mexico, but instead of reaching Clovis she is behind bars this evening. Drug task force agents arrested 46 year old Anna Barreno last night as she traveled on US Hwy 70.

Police say they had been tipped off that Barreno was trying to transport a large amount of heroin from Portales to Clovis. Inside her vehicle officers found 17 bags of "black tar" heroin.

Barreno is charged with possession with intent to traffic heroin, tampering with evidence and two counts of child abuse. Since Barreno's two grandchildren were in the car with her at the time of the arrest.

Barreno has been booked at the Curry County Adult Detention Center with a bond of 50 thousand dollars, cash only.

    The Texas A&M Forest Service said 60,000 acres have burned in the Rankin Ranch Road Fire, a large blaze burning near Miami in Roberts County.
