A former Sheriff's Deputy from Roosevelt County and convicted sex offender has been sentenced to about six years behind bars, after eluding police.

Raymond Gates pleaded guilty to two counts of Criminal Sexual Contact of a Minor in April 2005, according to the Ninth Judicial District Attorney's office. A judged sentenced Gates to six years in prison, but that charge was later dropped, and Gates was sentenced to probation instead.

Gates failed to register as a sex offender as he was supposed to.  Gates skipped town and evaded police until this June, according to the D.A. Gates was arrested after a Texas rancher recognized him on the show "America's Most Wanted". Police then arrested Gates at the home of a family in Wichita Falls, according to the District Attorney.

A judge said Gates must remain in prison until at least June 7, 2013.

Construction is underway on Canyon's new aquatic park, which is still on schedule to open to the public on June 1st. The aquatic park is just a bunch of holes in the ground right now. But when the slides go up (by April 10th), people will start to see how close the project is to completion.
