PNM threatens to cut jobs

New Mexico's largest utility says it's likely to put jobs on the chopping block. A spokesman for Public Service Company of New Mexico blames rising expenses for leading the company to seriously consider firings.

"Costs have gone up for things like copper, steel, etc.," says Jeff Buell. "All these things that are used to build power plants which we need to build more or in the next few years and right now to serve growing demand."

PNM reportedly employs about 25-30 people in Clovis and Portales. The company reported a more than 7-million dollar loss in the second quarter.

Buell says they have yet to pinpoint a number of jobs they may decide to cut.
