Business owners be cautioned.

The Amarillo Police Department received 20 burglary calls last night, and the majority were from businesses.

Built Well Automotive was one of the businesses hit Sunday night, leaving business owner Steven Woodard with more than $5,000 dollars in damage to his shop.  "To tell you the truth, I don't even know if it's worth being in business anymore. As much money as I have to spend out of here I don't really make a decent living anymore." Woodard said.

According to the Amarillo Police Department business burglaries have risen 11% since this time last year and the thieves are targeting small businesses. Corporal Jerry Nuefeld says the Amarillo P.D. is addressing the problem by putting extra patrols on the streets and providing security surveys to businesses.

"We come out, look around the business property and say you might want to change the lock here, put additional lighting there. Maybe some stuff around the building structure itself."

Nuefeld also says these burglaries are not slowing down and ask anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 374-4400.
