Habitat for Humanity in Amarillo

Amarillo Habitat for Humanity is setting records for homes built this year.  They have built five homes in six months, a record for Amarillo, and expect to have ten completed this year.

The latest home will be the last home built in the Polk/Tyler neighborhood.  After the completion, the group will have a block party celebrating its finish.  It will also be a celebration for the 25th anniversary of Habitat in Amarillo.

The City of Amarillo and the Texas Panhandle Builder's Association are teaming up to build this last home, and they expect to have it completed in only six weeks.

Amarillo Mayor Debra McCartt was there, and explained the importance of this organization: "It's just a wonderful project.  I encourage people to come out and become involved with Habitat.  It makes you feel good, and it certainly helps the family that's going to gain this new home for themselves."

For more information on qualifying for the home, or to volunteer log on to www.habitat.org, or call the Amarillo office at (806)383-3456.
