Group mobilizes Amarillo men to fight rape

An outreach group is calling on Amarillo men to help fight sexual assault. The organization, Men Can Stop Rape, aims to educate males young an old about their part in protecting women.

Monday afternoon the group shared strategies to help break stereotypes about male involvement in rape prevention.

"Men are often demonized when it comes to sexual assault prevention and rape prevention efforts," says group consultant Joseph Vess.

"They get the message that they don't have a role to play in it.  The message that I'm trying to send is men do have a role to play.  There are many ways that men can create and can make the world a safer place."

Vess explains that one way men can help prevent rape is by acting as role models for boys and encouraging them to develop healthy relationships with females at an early age.
