West Nile Virus Case In Randall County

The first human case of West Nile has hit the Amarillo area. On Friday city officials confirmed a Randall County woman has the West Nile Virus.

Further details are not being released at this time but officials say everyone needs to be extra careful because West Nile can be deadly.

City officials say to protect yourself, use insect repellant with DEET and get rid of any standing water in or around your home.

Even a small amount of water can be a prime place for mosquitoes to breed.  If you have flu like symptoms for several days you should be looked at by a doctor.
