Water Pipeline Project

A $432 million dollar water project in Eastern New Mexico now has crucial support from the state's U.S. Senators.

They will push for federal funding to pay for most of the project. Clovis's Mayor says they want to build an underground pipeline from Ute Lake to the Roosevelt, Curry County area.

Officials say the 200 mile pipeline is necessary to secure water because they expect their current supply will run out in 25 to 40 years.

Lawmakers should make decision on the federal funding by next year. If Eastern New Mexico receives the money, the project should take about ten years to complete.
