"Tactical Police Officers 2-Man Competition"

They're considered the best of the best. Members of several law enforcement agencies competed in a friendly shooting competition at Amarillo's shooting range this morning.

Amarillo Police Department's Swat Team sponsored the first annual "Tactical Police Officers 2-Man Competition".

Participants came from all over the region, including members from the Amarillo Police Department, and from the Sheriff's Offices in Lubbock, Randall, and Potter Counties.

The men competed on two ranges, using rifles and pistols.

The officers say the contest is not just about having fun, but they say it's important to hone their shooting skills.

"I hope it makes the public feel safe knowing we're out here everyday. It's one of those things you hope you never have to use in the line of duty, but unfortunately sometimes you have to," said Corporal Chris Shelton of the Amarillo Police Department.

The top three teams from today's event will move on to the State Swat Finals that will be held in Nacogdoches in late September.

The winning teams are from the Amarillo Police Department, the Lubbock Sheriff's Office, and from the Narcotics Task Force.

Those winners will also receive some prizes that were donated from several Amarillo sporting good stores.
