TAKS Ratings Released

Tascosa High School in Amarillo is now considered academically unacceptable by the Texas Education Agency, following this year's TAKS test. Officials with the Amarillo Independent School District say the rating is misleading because most students had passing scores.

They say the school received the rating for two reasons. First, a small group of African American students did not meet the standard on the math portion of the test. Second, the economically disadvantaged group did not have enough students from their group graduate.

AISD officials say they will continue to work hard and help every student. Overall, AISD TAKS test scores and ratings are up: 14 schools received exemplary ratings, 18 are recognized, and 18 are acceptable.

A few other schools in the area received a rating of academically unacceptable. They are Bovina Elementary, Hart JR-SR High School, and Williams Intermediate School in Perryton.
