The latest Amarillo Housing Report shows that we are in a buyers market right now.

The report says that there is a .25% increase in the number of home sales in the past year. But, the number of homes going up for sale has increased 4.9%.

Amanda Renfroe works with Buyers Choice Real Estate. She says Amarillo is definitely a buyers market right now, but that is normal.

"It's a buyers market primarily, because there's so many homes for sale. Lots of reasons, one is new construction. The home sales have been rising, which makes homes for sale stay on the market a little bit longer. Or to have to lower their asking price. Another reason is the change in the financial market. It's more difficult for buyers with spotty credit to get approved."

There are several reasons for the large number of people selling in Amarillo, but Renfroe says there is no need for concern.

"I wouldn't really be worried at all. We're following the national trend, so that part is just the same as everywhere."

Construction is underway on Canyon's new aquatic park, which is still on schedule to open to the public on June 1st. The aquatic park is just a bunch of holes in the ground right now. But when the slides go up (by April 10th), people will start to see how close the project is to completion.
