More Room For Public Health

The Department of Public Health in Amarillo is struggling to meet people's health needs because they have more patients, more staff, but no room to expand in its current location.

That's why they want to build a bigger building. Matt Richardson, Director of Public Health says they need more space for exam rooms, offices, expanding programs, testing, counseling, and prevention.

On Wednesday he asked the Amarillo Health Facilities Corporation Board for financial support.  They agreed to set aside just over $600,000 to get this $2.1 million project going.

Richardson says it's too early to know when the project will start because they are still acquiring other funding.
