NM Cattle TB-Free For Now

Curry County is at the center of a dispute that could cost the state's cattle industry millions of dollars.  In June officials confirmed a bovine Tuberculosis outbreak in the county at two neighboring dairies.

Those facilities are owned by the same person, which means it's considered a single herd.  But federal agriculture officials are considering calling it two herds which would take away New Mexico's TB-free status and cause every cow in the state to undergo expensive testing.

NewsChannel 10 checked to see if the bovine TB in Curry County could spread to cattle in Texas.  Officials say at this time there is no need to worry because it is contained.  If there are any changes people in the cattle industry will be notified.

Officials also tell us this type of TB only affects cattle, not humans.  They say it will not affect your beef or milk.
