Fingerprint Background Checks for Child Care Workers

To help keep your children safe from criminals Governor Rick Perry signed a bill into law which will require Texas childcare workers to have a more extensive background check.

Starting in September Texas childcare workers will have to go through a fingerprint background check before they are hired and each year after that.  Some are against this because it will cost the day-care owner about $50 per employee, but NewsChannel 10 spoke with one Amarillo daycare owner who says there is no expense that is too great when it comes to protecting children.

The new law stems from an incident involving a 4-year-old from the Dallas area who died from heat-stroke while on a field trip with his day-care. The day-care owner had a license from the state despite having a criminal record that included the stabbing of a woman.
