Clovis man sentenced to 17 years in prison

CLOVIS, N.M. (AP) - A 50-year-old Clovis man has been sentenced to 17 years in prison after pleading no contest to two counts of criminal sexual penetration of a minor.

Paul Bergman must serve 85% of his sentence before becoming eligible for parole because the crime was deemed a "serious and violent offense" under New Mexico, District Attorney Matthew Chandler said today.

Police say the victim frequently visited Bergman's home, where the crimes occurred, during the summer of 2005.
