More than 350 people across the country die every year from mattress fires.
The leading cause is children under five playing with lighters and matches in the bedroom.
Starting July 1st every mattress sold in the U.S. will be flame retardant, something officials are hoping will cut down on the more than 20 thousand house fires caused by bedding.
Experts say a home fire breaks out every 80 seconds and by the time a smoke detector sounds, families may have have less than two minutes to get out of the house. But a flame retardant mattress can hold off fire for up to 30 minutes
