Rising Gas Prices Causes Rise In Summertime Treats

A summer time treat most people enjoy---ice cream, but high gas prices may have caused some products to also rise.

Ah, the familiar sound the ice cream man is coming, but this year, when you race to cool off with your favorite sweet, it may cost you more.

"We've had to go up on a few items this year to compensate. Vanilla dippers have gone up a quarter and our bombs have also gone up a quarter," says Debbie Redmond, Branch Manager of Frosty Treats.

All to help even out the higher gas prices.

This local ice cream truck driver has to fill up her vehicle everyday with her own money.

"We're the ones who pay the gas, this time last year I was paying 10 dollars now paying 30 a day just in gas,"says Melody Patten, Ice Cream Truck Driver.

Which is causing a dent in her paycheck.

"That all I'm doing is working to pay the gas," says Patten.

But she says she'll continue to sell as long as people continue to buy.

"I've got some really good customers, the kids are great, it gives me a good day and sometimes that makes up for having to put up that extra cash for gas," says Patten.
