Texas Senate Approves Funeral Protest Bill

A bill that would increase the distance protesters must stand from a funeral service receives approval from the Texas Senate.

The measure would increase the distance to 1,000 feet. Current Texas law makes it a class b misdemeanor to protest within 500 feet of the site of a funeral, from one hour before, to one hour after the service.

The bill could be sent to Governor Rick Perry within days.

According to the Associated Press, the measure is aimed at the Westboro Baptist Church of Topeka, Kansas.
