70 new jobs and 3.6 million dollars every year. That's what's headed to Amarillo. On Tuesday city commissioners approved a new project with the Amarillo Economic Development Corporation to help build a 10 million dollar facility for the Pacific Cheese Company.
The City of Amarillo and AEDC also helped fund the Hilmar cheese plant in Dalhart. AEDC President Buzz David says building Hilmar in Dalhart made sense because it's near so many dairies.
That plant opened doors for other development opportunities because as they make cheese they have to send it to someone to cut it, wrap it, package it and send it all over the country. Pacific cheese will do just that.
David says a company like that will fit better in Amarillo because the city has the infrastructure and support services it needs. David says Amarillo supports surrounding communities because they support Amarillo. And he adds our economies are directly tied to one another.
Pacific will be built near the loop and 24th and should be open in about 10-12 months.
