Amarillo used car dealer gets 27 months for bank fraud

LUBBOCK, Texas A federal judge in Lubbock today sentenced an Amarillo used car dealer to 27 months in prison in a fraud case.

Thirty-three-year-old Christopher Ray Campbell pleaded guilty February 22nd to bank fraud.

Campbell, who operated Silver Star Motor Company, also must pay more than 322-thousand dollars in restitution.

He faced a possible maximum sentence of 30 years behind bars.

Campbell admitted defrauding financial institutions in a 2005 and 2006 check kiting scheme.

Prosecutors say Campbell, when he couldn't secure vehicle financing on his own, persuaded other dealers to help him get financing. He paid them a fee to use their credit.

Campbell remains free on bond. He must report to prison by June seventh.
