Cactus Receives Aid From FEMA

Cactus residents can now apply for federal funding. We first told you on Nightcast Tuesday, President Bush has declared Moore and Swisher counties as major disaster areas after being hit by recent tornados.

Hundreds of homes were damaged and until now many Cactus residents were re-building from their own pocket book. Now they can apply to get help from FEMA. Many residents we spoke with today did not even know about the decision.

That's why the city is now spreading the message--help is on the way. "Word of mouth is the big thing, we have also put flyers out and we are having a meeting tomorrow to give everyone a chance to ask questions about what's going on," says Cactus City Manager Jeff Jenkins.

That meeting will be Thursday at the community center at five. Also, residents can call FEMA to set up assistance between eight in the morning and six at night, seven days a week. That number is 1-800-621-3362.
