MV- 22 Osprey is headed to combat

The MV-22 Osprey is headed to combat. The commandant of the Marine Corps announced the first combat deployment for the m-MV-22 aircraft today.

"It's my pleasure to announce that the Marines of VMM 263, the world's first tilt-rotor squadron, will also be the first to take the mMV-22 Osprey into combat"

The aircraft is designed to fly like a plane and land like a helicopter, giving the marines more flexibility in the field.

The Osprey will replace Vietnam-era CH46E Sea Knight Helicopters.

The Marines and the aircraft will deploy to Iraq in September of this year.
