FEMA To Open Recovery Center

CLOVIS, N.M. Now that President Bush has declared a major disaster in Curry and Quay counties because of tornado damage, the Federal Emergency Management Agency will open a recovery center in Clovis to help victims.

The president's declaration making residents in the eastern New Mexico region eligible for federal funds.

Assistance can include grants for temporary housing and home repairs, low-cost loans to cover uninsured property losses and other programs to help individuals and business owners recover.

FEMA spokesman Kim Pease says anyone who has tornado-related damage should contact FEMA now. He's urging people to contact FEMA even if they think they're not eligible for assistance.

Pease says depending on the damage and if the individuals qualify for housing assistance, they could receive financial assistance within a couple weeks.
