Tornado causes at least 3 injuries in Logan

LOGAN, N.M. (AP)  Forecasters with the National Weather Service say two tornadoes touched down in eastern New Mexico today within three hours of each other.

State police say the first tornado hit Logan around 3:10 p-m, damaging about two dozen mobile homes and campers and sending three people to the hospital.

State Police Sergeant Andrew Tingwall says several other people have been treated for minor injuries and released from a Logan clinic.

Forecasters say the storm then headed northeast to Roosevelt County and produced a tornado that lingered on the ground in Crossroads -- about 40 miles north of Lovington -- around 5:30pm.

They say they won't know how strong either twister was until a survey team is sent to the affected areas.
