No Charges Against Amarillo Officer

An Amarillo Police officer who shot and killed a man will not face any charges. The Grand Jury ruled the officer's use of deadly force was justified.

It was February 21st when police were called to the Wal-Mart on Georgia Street on reports of a man with a gun. When officers arrived they found 24-year old Mathew Scott Carey holding what appeared to be a gun. APD Officer Victor Del-Fierro ordered Carey to drop the weapon but reports show he turned toward the office. That is when Del-Fierro fired two shots killing Carey.

The officer was put on a mandatory 3-day leave but has now returned to active duty.
