Man Dies in Custody of Potter Co.

Preliminary autopsy results are now in regarding a man who died while in police custody.

Randy Lee McSmith, 45, was arrested last week on a charge of assault.  Police say he was being very combative and was placed in restraints and a helmet to protect himself.

Mcsmith later complained of ear pains after being booked into the Potter County jail.  He was taken to the hospital where he underwent surgery and later died.
Today preliminary reports show he died as a result of a blood clot in his head.  The investigation is still on-going.
