St. Mary's Church Fire

Firefighters have put out a blaze at St. Mary's Church at 1200 South Washington.

The fire started after 3:30am, but a NewsChannel 10 photojournalist at the church saw the fire grow just before 5:30am, when flames shot through the sanctuary roof, causing it to collapse.

A Fire Department spokesperson told us firefighters continue battling the blaze until around 8am.

No one was hurt in the fire, and investigators continue looking into what caused it.

They closed Washington Street between 16th and 11th.

St. Mary's also canceled school today.
