Officer Involved Shooting Investigation

An Amarillo man dies after being shot twice by a police office.
The incident took place around 5:30 on Wednesday at the Wal-Mart parking lot on I-27 and Georgia.
We've been following this story since it broke, today we have new details on the victim.

The identity of the man who reportedly pointed a gun to the APD officer has been released and this isn't the first time this man has been in trouble with the law.
   This is 24-year-old Matthew Carey.
He is the man who allegedly stole this bmw from an Amarillo dealership, tried to get anti-biotics with a fake id from this wal-mart pharmacy, waved a gun around in this parking lot and pointed it at an Amarillo police officer.
"His behavior was described by employees by being very bizarare, he go from being very sleepy to cussing and things, he didn't seem normal to them," says Lt. Gary Trupe, APD Special Crimes Unit.
We have also found out carey has been arrested before for drugs and weapons.
"Wee what additional records he's got here in the state or any other state but he has been arrested several times by the police department," says Trupe.
Carey was shot twice by Officer Victor Del Fierro after he reportedly pointed this pellet gun at him.
"The officer does not have a chance at that time or opportunity at that time to find out whether that's a real gun or not a real gun. He's got to make a split second decision and I'm sure it's just a matter of this," says Trupe.
