Valero to be Down for Weeks

It will be several weeks before a partial startup is expected at the Valero McKee refinery outside Dumas.

That's what Valero is releasing this afternoon.

Damage from Friday's explosion is largely confined to the propane de-asphalting unit, but the entire plant remains shut down.

A team of executives and specialized engineers from San Antonio are now on-site alongside OSHA and the U.S. Chemical Safety Board investigating the cause of the explosion.

Teams are also assessing damage and repair costs for the rebuilding effort.
