A brutal fight in Amarillo leaves a man dead. Tonight, police are probing the city's first murder of the year.
It happened in the 3300 block of SW 8th St. Saturday night just after 10:30. Newschannel 10's Felicia Lafuente shares an exclusive interview with an eyewitness.
Amarillo police are being tight-lipped about the ivestigation right now so Newschannel 10 visited the murder scene and spoke with a man who witnessed the tragic event.
"When I looked out from my porch there were two guys attacking each other and there was some agressive conversation going on. The guy being attacked was begging for his life," says Rick, an eye witness.
"I went inside and got my cell phone and called 9-1-1 and told what I had witnessed and that they needed to get some help...Because I was not involved in the incident, I was just trying to help the man who was being murdered."
Amarillo police arrived at the crime scene just after 10:30 on Saturday evening. There they found a 39-year-old white man, stabbed several times in his upper body.
Since the next of kin has not been notified, Newschannel 10 cannot release the name of the victim. However, a suspect, who is described as a 19-year-old white man, turned himself in this morning and is now in the Potter County jail, charged with murder.
Rick, an eye witness, did not know who the victim and suspect were, but he was able to hear some of the heated argument.
Rick says: "I just heard the guy on the ground for sure. The other conversation I couldn't say for sure what it was, but the guy on the ground was definitely telling him 'please don't kill me, please don't kill me.'"
