Hall of Fame Inductees Announced

Sunday afternoon the Panhandle Sports Hall of Fame will induct its three newest members and this year they all have basketball in common.

West Texas A&M University coaching legend, Bob Schneider, is among those being inducted.  Schneider coached twenty-five years at WTA&M with a record of 585-163.  He also had a great run at Canyon High School where he won five state titles and for ten years in a row, led the Lady Eagles to the state tournament.

The second inductee is Allen Simpson who coached at Canyon, Big Spring, Spearman and Amarillo High, during the time compiling a 679-372 record in thirty-four years.  His Teams made the playoffs seventeen times and he won two state titles, one with Canyon and one at Amarillo High.

The final inductee is Jo Helen White Cabbel who starred at Quail High School from 1949-1953.  She played for a very successful AAU team named Dowell's Dolls.  Cabbell also won a gold medal playing for the U.S. team in 1955.

The induction ceremonies will be Sunday, February 11th, at 2:00 p.m. in Ordway Auditorium on the Amarillo College campus.  Other local athletes and coaches will be honored too.  A reception will follow and it is free of charge.
