Elaine Whyte, BSN, MSN, FNP-C, of The Don & Sybil Harrington Cancer Center has successfully completed the requirements to become a Certified MammaCare Clinical Breast Examiner.
MammaCare is the recognized standard for teaching and performing clinical breast examination in breast cancer screening clinics. Women and clinicians properly trained in MammaCare have found breast cancers as small as 3mm. in diameter.
"It is a pleasure to welcome Elaine to the MammaCare family," said Dr. H.S. Pennypacker, President of the Mammatech Corporation and one of the original team of scientists who developed MammaCare. "Elaine will make an important contribution to medical education and women's health throughout Texas."
Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women and is the second leading cause of cancer death in women, after lung cancer.
About 212,920 women in the United States will be found to have invasive breast cancer in 2006. About 40,970 women will die from the disease this year. Right now there are slightly over 2 million women living in the United States who have been treated for breast cancer.
