New 'Vista' for Windows

Microsoft is ready to begin consumer sales of its new Vista operating system just after midnight.

This is the long-awaited upgrade to Windows.

Chairman Bill Gates says Vista reflects input from consumers who wanted a system that is easier to use.

Retailers like Best Buy will stay open late to sell the upgrade to anxious customers

The new system can be purchased either alone to upgrade older computers, or wil come included on new pcs.

PC World spokesman Hamish Thompson said some retailers are banking on Vista to push customers toward the higher-end machines needed to run Vista - which imposes such hardware requirements as 1 gigabyte of system memory, or RAM.
