More Troops Headed for the Border

Governor Rick Perry plans to add another 600 National Guard troops to the Texas-Mexico border.

The "Operation Wrangler'' border security push will include:

  • 68-hundred federal, state and local officials
  • 22-hundred vehicles
  • 48 helicopters
  • 33 aircraft and 35 patrol ships.

Perry says last year's "Operation Rio Grande'' reduced crime by about 60% along parts of the border.

But State Representative Paul Moreno of El Paso says past operations haven't reduced crime -- and he doesn't think this one will, either.
