Downtown Amarillo, Changing and Growing

Some say it's the heart of a city, downtown.  For quite some time many people in Amarillo have worked hard to see the downtown area grow and thrive into what is was like many years ago.
Thanks to all that work and  dedication downtown is on it's way to some new and great things. New business, places to live and eat are popping up all over.  An old office building on Fillmore St. is under construction right now and will soon be lofts.  The Barfield Building on Polk will soon be condominiums, offices, plus there is room for other possibilities. The Paramount Building already has a new business inside and others are on the way, including Randy's Of Wildorado, a fine dining restaurant.  Another project which continues to grow is the Eagle Center Lofts.  The 5th floor is complete with 6 lofts, now they're working on the 4th floor. We spoke with one man who lives in these lofts who says he and his wife love it.

Another big factor which should help downtown grow is a new tax reinvestment zone which was recently passed by the City of Amarillo.   This means as buildings are improved and values go up, the money from the tax can go back into other downtown projects.  Officials with Center City say this is important because it draws developers to our area.  Center City continues to work with the City of Amarillo on an action plan  to ensure new projects are created and completed.
