Amarillo Woman Sentenced for Mailing Marijuana

An Amarillo woman who mailed 78 pounds of marijuana to herself is getting a change of address -- federal prison.

A judge in Amarillo today sentenced 28-year-old Tiffany Joy Kelly to two and a-half years behind bars.

Kelly in October pleaded guilty to one count of illegal use of a communication facility.    Prosecutors say Kelly admitted using the postal service in El Paso to mail the pot to herself, in care of a motel in Amarillo.

A postal inspector in El Paso became suspicious of the two Express Mail parcels. A search warrant allowed officials to open the packages.

The items were then resealed and sent to Kelly at a Super 8 Motel. She was arrested July 20th after taking delivery of the marijuana.

Prosecutors say Kelly admitted buying the pot and mailing it to herself -- so she could distribute it.

Construction is underway on Canyon's new aquatic park, which is still on schedule to open to the public on June 1st. The aquatic park is just a bunch of holes in the ground right now. But when the slides go up (by April 10th), people will start to see how close the project is to completion.
