Clovis D.A. Recruiting Community to Help Fight Crime

The District Attorney's office in Curry County is asking people in the community to help reduce crime in the area by implementing the first-ever "community prosecution initiative."

The goal of the program is to create a firm partnership between the community and law enforcement to advance area crime prevention programs.

Typically this is accomplished by establishing greater ties between law enforcement and community groups and leaders, such as home owners associations, faith or ministerial groups, parent-teacher associations, business owner associations, youth groups, and others.

Similar programs have been successful in larger cities like New York, Los Angeles, and Seattle.

The main goals in Curry and Roosevelt counties this year are to eliminate the problem of graffiti, safety for seniors, and to abolish school truancy.
