Family and friends have said their final farewell to a hometown hero.

21-year-old Private Troy Cooper of the U.S. Army was laid to rest this afternoon at Llano Cemetery after a service at Lighthouse Baptist Church in River Road.

Hundreds of mourners packed the church to pay their respects to Cooper and his family.

Many of those people tell us that Private Cooper had a personality that would light up the room and would do anything to make you smile.

Private Cooper died Dec. 3 of injuries suffered when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle in Balad, Iraq.  Cooper was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 82nd Field Artillery Regiment, 3rd Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.

He is survived by his wife Leslie, his parents, a brother and a sister.
