U.S. Mexico Linked Economically

Texas and Mexico are strengthening economic ties. That's what one expert explained to business leaders in Canyon today.

Bill Gilmer of the Federal Reserve stressed an industrial connection across the Rio Grande where the US benefits from inexpensive skilled labor and Mexico enjoys one- point-two million assembly plant jobs within its borders.

"The Mexican economy has become increasingly integrated with the US economy and it's become increasingly dependent on the US economy. So goes the US economy, so goes Mexico in many cases."

Gilmer notes cheap trucking transportation has helped merge assembly plant production between the US and Mexico. He gave the lecture as part of an investment series at West Texas A&M.
