Edible Cotton

When you hear the word "cotton" you probably think of clothing...But this crop may also become a source of food.

A chemical called gossypol found in cottonseed makes it inedible for humans, but Texas A&M University researchers have now genetically modified cotton to produce seeds with little or no gossypol.

It's a step they say could help provide valuable protein to millions of people. Once the gossypol is removed... The cotton can be ground into flour and used in cooking.
