Thousands of people die each year as a result of drunk driving.. That's why the group--Mothers Against Drunk Driving or MADD---has launched a new national campaign to eliminate drunk driving.
With the holiday season here, MADD wanted to make sure this campaign was launched at the time when more drunk-driving accidents happen.
This campaign wants every state to implement a 4-point plan that includes more sobriety checkpoints and all convicted drunken drivers to have breath-test interlock devices installed in their vehicles. They also want a panel of safety experts to explore other technology that would help prevent drunken driving altogether.
Virginia Gonzales has no doubt this is possible. "This idea will utilmately be a reality, we realize so many factors that play in this in addition to social change and behavior, but really people need to realize the countless lives that will saved as a result."
