Attorney Appointed for Accused Coach

An Amarillo attorney could help determine if a Spearman coach will keep his job.

Attorney Don Dean has been appointed by the Texas Education Agency to oversee a hearing concerning Coach Jerry Bass.

Bass has been on administrative leave since the Spearman school board began investigating him for aggravated assault involving a student in September.

No criminal charges were ever filed against Bass. The board moved toward terminating his contract but he appealed their decision.

A hearing date is expected to be set for mid-December in Amarillo.
