An awards ceremony at the Civic Center this evening honored a local fallen firefighter.

Brian Hunton, who was killed in the line of duty in April 2005, was given a special award this evening.

An award the fire chief says will be given out in the future in Hunton's honor.

Fire Chief Steve Ross "Basically the criteria of the award is anybody that exhibits the characteristics that Brian did when he was with the Fire Department. It's a very prestigious award that we feel like can honor him and his accomplishments with the department...and sacrifices will be remembered. I can't think of a better way to honor anybody's memory on the Fire Department."

The event also recognized many other achievements of the Amarillo Fire Department over the past year.
