An Amarillo man is sentenced to decades in prison after pleading guilty to attempted capital murder this week.

A Potter County jury handed 19-year-old Gary Jack Hella a 35 year sentence for shooting police officer Kevin Brown in the hand last April.

Police say Hella was being apprehended by officer Brown when Hella pulled a gun out from under his clothes and shot him.

The situation happened near 26th and Grand on April 28th.

Hella also pleaded guilty to three other unrelated charges including burglary, which could keep him in jail for another 12 years.
