Director Maternal/Child Services

Position Summary:

Responsible for planning, directing, organizing, coordinating and implementing nursing care services for Obstetrics, Labor & Delivery, and Newborn Nursery patients according to acceptable standards of care.  Responsible for oversight of delivery of safe, quality patient care in compliance with all applicable regulatory agency requirements, state and federal legislation, and hospital policies.  Exercise effective leadership skills to accomplish departmental and organizational goals.  Serve as positive professional role model and resource person for staff.


  • Licensure/Certification/Registration/Competence: RN, current in the State of Texas.  Current CPR and NRP certifications
  • Experience Preferred: Experience in management of Health Care Administration preferred
  • Special Skills/Qualifications: ACLS certification, PALS certification, and BLS Instructor preferred

  • Reports To:  Chief Nursing Officer
  • Supervises:   Less than 20

Education: (indicate minimum)

  • College level: Associate

Ages of Patients Served:

  • Birth - 1 year
  • 12 - 17 years
  • 18 - 64 years
  • 65 years and older

Working Conditions:

  • INSIDE:  Spends approximately 100% or more of time inside.  Inside work has good ventilation, comfortable temperature

Work Positions (defined in 10% increments of work time)  Sitting: 40%    Standing: 30%    Walking: 30%

Physical  Demands:

  • MEDIUM WORK: Lifting 50 lbs maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 lbs.
  • Ability to lift, push and pull with assistance (mechanical or co-worker) the weight of the average patient specific to the department
  • On Call Work
  • Perform Shift Work
