Osprey Damaged After 'Hard Landing'

The Marine Corps is investigating a "hard landing" tonight that damaged an Osprey aircraft made here in Amarillo.

During a test flight at Marine Corps Air Station New River the Osprey made a hard landing, damaging a wing and the engine.

Fortunately, no one was hurt.

The Osprey program was stopped in 2000 after crashes killed more than 20 Marines.

But just last month it was announced that a new squadron of Ospreys has been created and will be headed into Iraq by the end of the year.

It's still uncertain if the crash was caused by mechanical or pilot error.
