A group of nine Osprey helicopters assembled here in Amarillo have been approved for combat missions.
Squadron 263 was activated at the Marine Corps air station right outside of Camp LeJeune, North Carolina.
The current fleet of helicopters there are from the Vietnam era, and is so old it can no longer carry a full payload.
Local Bell authorities are also noting today's activation with satisfaction saying the years spent developing the Osprey are now paying off.
