NEW ORLEANS, LA (KFDA) - Two fugitives from Amarillo have been arrested in New Orleans after a car chase led to an officer involved shooting.
Around 10:30 a.m., the U.S. Marshal task force stopped a car with the two fugitives inside in New Orleans.
Police say the man and woman tried to take off, almost hitting an officer. Police say the officer pulled his weapon and fired at the vehicle in self defense, and the suspects took off.
Officers with the Louisiana State Police, U.S. Marshals, New Orleans Police and the St. John Parish Sheriff's Office pursued the car, but stopped shortly in the interest of public safety.
The man was shot in the shoulder and the hand, and the woman had a graze wound. The suspects drove themselves to a hospital.
The U.S. Marshal says the man and woman were wanted out of Amarillo for aggravated battery and assault on DPS officers in Texas.
St. Jon Parish Sheriff Mike Tregre says the officer was not injured in the incident.
Police say they are expecting to release the names of the suspects soon. They did not say whether the officer will be placed on administrative leave.
