AMARILLO, TX (KFDA) -

Jayton Acosta and Saben Florer are two local pole vaulters who have qualified for the Junior Olympics, but they need your help to get over the top.

"Both of these guys have been coming to us at our club since they were seventh graders and both have had a lot of success," said Steve Lott, Wings Elite Pole Vault coach. "Jayton set the junior high record in Amarillo, and he's been to regionals the last couple of years. Saben went to regionals and state this year. They've both done really well, they work hard, they're talented and they have that goal and nothing gets in the way."

For Jayton and Saben, it's a dream come true to qualify for the Junior Olympics.

"It was a dream, I've always wanted to go to the Olympics and I figured this would be the first step to do that." said Acosta. "I went to the regional track meet and I was nervous, but I ended up doing really good. I was really surprised I got third and qualified so I'm really happy about that."

"I'm always trying to catch up to Jayton," said Florer. "And Coach Lott, he taught me from the time I started."

The guys have been collecting scrap metal to raise money for their trip, but so far, that hasn't been enough to cover it all.

"It's not something that has been given to them, they've both proved it over the years with how hard they work. Jayton and I have hauled a lot of scrap metal trying to get money for Caprock. So these are not lazy kids, or spoiled kids that come out and vault and go back and sit on their couch and drink tea," said  Lott.

If you want to help some Amarillo Junior Olympians get to the big stage, a GoFundMe account has been created accepting any donations.

"Both of these guys are working in different ways trying to get their own money together with them and their families. It's an expensive trip going all the way to Iowa with gas the way it is and they've got it spread out two or three nights," explained Lott.

While they continue to raise money to support their dreams of becoming Olympians, they're both enjoying the ride.

"It's like wow, I actually made it," said Acosta. This is cool because I've never performed in front of a lot of people in a huge stadium like this. It'll be nerve racking but it'll be fun."
